Get a webcam like this for your own websiteLovely view of Penzance Bay from this live webcam from Penzance Sailing Club. This camera looks out from its location on Albert Pier across Mounts Bay and if you bring the image up full screen you can just see St. Michaels Mount in the distance with Marazion behind it.
The Albert Pier, the second pier in Penzance was completed in 1853 to provide improved sheltering for shipping. Following this a small lighthouse was then built on the Old Pier in 1855.
Penzance, like many Cornish fishing towns has a very interesting past history. For example during the summer of 1578, the area was badly hit by the plague. The burial registers for the area show a massive increase in deaths for 1578, from just 12 the previous year going up to 155. This was about 10% of the population of the village at the time. The plague then returned in 1647 and this time there was an increase in burials from 22, to 217 in just this year.
Today Penzance is a bustling holiday destination with plenty of lovely guest houses, hotels and B&Bs to choose from. But it is still a livley fishing port too and water sports also play a big part in the towns income.
Penzance Sailing club performs a major part in this too and for those wishing to take up sailing or just visit the club you will find it a lovely warm and welcoming place to visit during your stay in Cornwall.
