Kennack beach is just a few minutes walk away and with access to the South West Coastal Path too, this is a great place to stay for a beach holiday and enjoying lovely walks and views of the rugged Cornish coastline.
Helston is situated at the northern end of the Lizard Peninsula and it is the most southerly town in England, even further south than Penzance.
Helston has an oceanic climate similar to the rest of the British Isles and is one of the mildest places in the country.
Helston was granted its charter in the year 1201 when it was a thriving port. But as the river filled with silt over the years, the port gradually ceased to be. Where the river joined the sea is now Cornwall’s largest freshwater lake, separated from the sea by Loe Bar which is a long sand bar.
Helston is quite famous for the 'Furry' or Floral Dance which is always held on the 8th May, unless this date falls on a Sunday or Monday in which case it takes place on the preceding Saturday. On Flora Day the streets are filled with thousands of visitors and there is always a carnival atmosphere all day and into the night.
