Get a webcam like this for your own websiteThe lovely Tregenna Castle Hotel stands proud in its own 72 acre estate, overlooking the famous fishing town of St. Ives and the glorious coastline of St. Ives Bay. This is a wonderful place to stay in Cornwall and you can stay in one of the hotels luxurious rooms or choose from one of the many types of self catering properties within the estate.
The castle is a Grade II Listed building and was built in 1774 by Samuel Stephens, a member of an important local family. The building was extended in the 19th century.
The Tregenna estate was put up for sale by auction on 31st of October 1871, and in 1877 the Great Western Railway opened its St Ives branch line and it leased the Tregenna Castle as a hotel with its official opening on 5 August 1878.
Up to this time, early railway hotels had only been situated near large terminals or junctions and Tregenna was the first to be set up by the GWR as a holiday destination in its own right.
