In the days of the Soviet Union, Christmas was not celebrated all that much and New Year was the important time. However nowadays Christmas is celebrated as normal.

On the Christmas table in old Russia you would find a variety of meats including roasted pig, stuffed pig's head, roasted meat chunks, jelly, aspic, goose with apples, sour cream hare, venison, lamb, whole fish, etc.
On Christmas Day, hymns and carols are sung, and people gather in churches which have been decorated with the usual Christmas trees or Yelka, flowers and colored lights.
A Christmas church service on Christmas Eve, is attended by members of the Orthodox church and even the President of Russia attends in Moscow.
