The main Christmas celebrations in the Czech Republic take place on Christmas Eve. Some people will fast during Christmas Eve in the hope that they will see a vision of "the golden pig" appear on the wall before dinner, which is meant to be a sign of good luck at Christmas.
The Czech traditional Christmas dinner is eaten on Christmas Eve rather than on Christmas Day as it is in the UK.
The Christmas meal often consists of fish soup (made of carp), and fried carp with potato salad. They are big on Carp in the Czech Republic.
