There is evidence that Brixham has had a settlement which probably originated by the Saxons by sea since the 6th Century Brixham was called Briseham in the Domesday Book.with a population then of just 39
Many of the "photogenic" cottages above Brixham harbour were originally lived in by fishermen and their families.
Hundreds of ships have been wrecked on the rocks around Brixham and local fishermen risk their lives each time they venture out.
