Calshot is a coastal village in Hampshire at the west corner of Southampton Water where it joins the Solent and during, Henry VIII ordered the construction of Calshot Castle which is situated at the end of Calshot Spit. This was in order to defend the port of Southampton from attack.
During 1913 Calshot played a major part in the development of flying boats and to this day the original hangar from the World War II flying boats remains and is used as an activity centre for watersports.
