Rochester is a small town in Kent, South East England and is at the lowest bridging point of the River Medway about 30 miles from London.
For many years Rochester was a favourite of the world famous writer Charles Dickens who lived nearby at Gads Hill Place, Higham, and who based many of his novels in the area.
Neolithic remains have been found in the vicinity of Rochester and the town has been occupied by Celts, Romans and Saxons.
