Selecting the correct camera and lens combination is very important if you are going to get the view you need. Lens focal length is measured in millimetres (mm) and the smaller the number is, the wider the viewing angle will be. This means that objects viewed through a 3.6mm lens will appear smaller and farther away than if they were viewed by the same camera using a 6mm lens or larger. So, for example, if you wanted to see as much of a beach as possible on your webcam to show the lovely view from your hotel or guest house you should use a 3.6mm lens.
In addition to lens size other factors will affect the view from a camera including its position relative to the target view and the pick up chip size too. So make sure that if you are changing an all in one camera from a 3.6mm model to a 6mm model you get one with the same size pick up chip (e.g. 1/4" or 1/3") as the one you already have and fit in the same location, or you may get unexpected results.
