The first NCI Coastwatch station was established at Bass Point, on The
Lizard peninsula, Cornwall in November 1994 following the closure of
most of HM Coastguard's visual watch stations following a period of
rationalization, and following the tragic deaths of two local fishermen who
drowned right below a recently closed Coastguard Station at Bass Point.
The NCI stations keep a watchful eye all around our coastlines and are a
great comfort and an asset to us all.
This live webcam is number 3 (of 3) at St. Ives Bay NCI station.
The NCI St Ives was formed in 1999 as a voluntary organisation and now
with public support they maintain, equip and operate the Station in order
to safeguard the lives of sea and coastal users in the St. Ives bay area.
